Legenda penulis komik asal Amerika Serikat ini tak masalah dengan background superhero. Apakah ia berkulit hitam atau putih maupun ia straight atau gay, itu semua mungkin terjadi. Namun ada hal-hal yang tidak bisa berubah soal background sang manusia super.
Menyinggung tentang film reboot Spider-Man, Stan menjawab pernyataan media tentang sosok manusia laba-laba tersebut.
"The only thing I don't like doing is changing the characters we already have. For example, I'd like Spider-Man to stay as he is, but I have no problem creating a superhero who's homosexual. I have no problem with having a black one, a Latino one, a Chinese one, anything the whole world is our playground. The whole world has heroes we can draw from. I'm just not too happy changing what has already been established," ujar Stan, dilansir E! News, Selasa (30/06/2015).

Dikabarkan sebelumnya, Sony membuat memo yang dipublikasikan oleh Gawker bahwa Spider-Man harus laki-laki berkulit putih, straight, tidak mem-bully atau kasar, tidak membunuh kecuali untuk membela diri, tidak mengutuk, tidak merokok, tidak menggunakan atau menjual narkoba, tidak mengonsumsi alkohol, dan tidak berhubungan seks di bawah 16 tahun.
Sony dan Marvel telah memilih Tom Holland untuk memerankan Spider-Man. Dan menurut Stan, Tom adalah pilihan tepat.
"I think it's great. They are doing so much with Spider-Man. You just wait and see all the surprises we have in store for you."
